Proton R3 Satria Mixes Malaysian Style With Lotus Tuning For Aussie Buyers [Melbourne International Motor Show]
In addition to building a car for the Islamic world, Malaysian car company Proton also builds a number of cars for the Australian market, including the popular Satria GTi. As a way of previewing the next GTi, Proton will be showing off the R3 Satria, which was tuned with the help of Proton’s motorsports arm. If you’re not moved by the thought of a Malaysian company’s tuners, we’d remind you that they borrow expertise heavily from Proton-owned Lotus. Though details are scarce, it sure looks mean enough to be a successor to the GTi. Press release below the jump.Proton Gives A Hint To New Hot Hatch With R3 At Melbourne Motor Show Proton will give Australia a sneak preview of its next generation hot hatch when it unveils the Proton R3 Satria at the Melbourne International Motor Show on February 29. The R3 Satria has been developed by Proton’s special vehicles and motorsport arm – R3, which stands for Race, Rally, and Research – at its headquarters in Shah Alam in Malaysia. R3 is headed up by former Lotus engineer and prominent Malaysia race driver Tengku Djan Ley. The R3 Satria combines a range of special body enhancements as well as suspension development and a high performance power plant, to give the Satria Neo a true edge in the hot hatch arena. At this stage the R3 Satria is still in development and no on sale date has been decided however the R3 division is working to bring the performance model to market as soon as possible. While the type and configuration of the power plant can not Jack Johnson be revealed at this stage R3 has targeted a significant power increase over the standard Proton Satria, which is powered by Proton’s own Campro 1.6 litre twin cam multi-valve engine. Alongside the R3 Satria at the Melbourne Motor Show media day will be Proton’s new four-door Persona sedan, which will also be launched at the show. According to Djan Ley the R3 Satria has been developed as a spiritual successor to the legendary Satria GTi, the first Proton to utilise the expertise and performance credentials of subsidiary company Lotus. “We have very much focussed on the Lotus philosophy of performance through lightweight, utilising intelligent powerplant solutions while minimising weight and enhancing Satria’s already impressive handling,” said Djan. “The Satria is a striking design and a great canvas for us to work with, I believe the R3 Satria will be a real hit at the show and draw a lot of attention,” he added. “However it is on the road where it will be Taylor Swift mp3 really impressive but people will have to wait a little while before the R3 Satria hits the tarmac,” he added. Proton Cars Australia managing director John Startari said the presence of the R3 Satria on the Proton stand at Melbourne will be a huge drawcard during the fortnight of the show. “The question we get asked all the time is when will the next Satria GTi be here, the first generation GTi carved a real niche for itself and it is a bit of a cult car, the R3 Satria certainly give some pointers to what its successor might look like,” said John Startari. “While we can’t reveal too many details at this time Satria GTi enthusiasts can rest easy in the knowledge that a performance version of the new Satria is not too far away and the R3 Satria is evidence of that,” he added. As well as revealing the new Persona and R3 Satria, Proton will also show a full array of its Australian model line-up at Melbourne including the Savvy city car, Gen 2 hatch, Satria Neo and Jumbuck ute, recently named the cleanest and greenest ute in Australia by the Australian government Green Vehicle Guide. [...] News & Views: Mayweather in WWE, Taylor-Jones, Pavlik-Trinidad, Hatton, more(News thanks to Boxing Scene) News: Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Jr., participated in World Wrestling Entertainment’s No Way Out pay-per-view last night, interfering against returning star The Big Show. The Mayweather spot is setting up a tag team match at WrestleMania XXIV, pitting Mayweather and 5′3″ star Rey Mysterio against the 7-foot Big Show and Shane McMahon.Views: I am what I consider to be a rehabbed pro wrestling fan. I was, in fact, a wrestling nerd for much of my life. I was hoping to never have to talk about pro wrestling again, but Mayweather’s involvement forces me to.One thing this does is prove Mayweather’s star quality. WWE may be banking on the Mayweather match to help carry the buyrate for WrestleMania. In the late 1990s, celebrity athletes participating in pro wrestling was a minor fad. Mike Tyson was famously the referee for the WrestleMania XIV main event between Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and his participation helped the mainstream appeal tremendously. World Championship Wrestling used Dennis Rodman on several occasions, once putting him into a tag match with Hulk Hogan against Diamond Dallas Page and basketball rival Karl Malone. Jay Leno also did one match for WCW, though he is no athlete. Football stars Kevin Greene, Reggie White and Steve McMichael all had short (or fairly long) stints with WCW, as well.Make no mistake about it — pro wrestling is not easy to do right. Mayweather has about as much chance being a good pro wrestler over a month of learning the ropes as he does being a good MMA fighter. But he’s only improving his marketability, and by competing as a babyface (good guy), his image may change to a lot of people.Mysterio, a native of Mexico, is a big boxing fan. He once had former lightweight contender Jorge Paez as a second for a pay-per-view match, and has been part of Erik Morales’ entourage on fight night. He is said to be very excited, since it will be the biggest match of his career, by far, in terms of mainstream interest. The whole thing is fine by me. No matter how low the ratings sink for pro wrestling, it is still a force on cable television and a highly-watched brand of entertainment. Mayweather potentially hooking in some younger fans who may have never really watched boxing is not a bad thing at all. Unless Mayweather gets injured (unlikely, since Big Show is a real professional and Mysterio will be doing most of the work, anyway), nothing bad can really come of this. He won’t be expected to do much more than dance around Big Show and land some punches, and he’ll probably get a KO spot on McMahon after the match.Wrestling Observer author and Yahoo! sports MMA columnist Dave Meltzer says, though, that Mayweather didn’t pull his punches very well on Sunday night, and ended up breaking Big Show’s nose. I’m sure Show was perfectly prepared for that. It probably at least looked good. News: According to The Daily Mail, Ricky Hatton is planning to start his own promotional company, inspired by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. Golden Boy worked heavily with Hatton for his fight with Mayweather in December. In addition, it appears that Juan Lazcano is the frontrunner to fight Hatton on May 24 in England.Views: Hatton starting his own promotional company is a result of the fact that he’s now a big enough star to do so, has the money to do so, and, in his own words, hasn’t had the best of luck with promoters in his career. As for a fight with Lazcano, that’s a riskier proposition than some may credit it. Lazcano is a very intelligent fighter. He got Vivian Harris to fight his fight last year, but hasn’t fought since then. “The Hispanic Causing Panic” is a perfectly good comeback opponent for Hatton. News: Lou DiBella says that talks are ongoing for Jermain Taylor to fight Roy Jones, Jr., most likely at a 170-pound catchweight.Views: Fairly interesting idea, but I don’t like that the talks are probably going to end up being for pay-per-view. Mostly because I think Taylor would demolish Jones, whose chin is supect. Taylor is a bigger guy than Tito Trinidad. But it would be a good idea for both sides. Roy Jones has to be fighters currently in their prime if he’s going to become Roy Jones again. Taylor needs a win over a name to get back into the starship. Most likely, I think Taylor knocks Jones out. Jones’ cockiness could ma …Usefull links: Leadville, Obama madison, Jeff novitzky, Kate voegele no good, Nascar daytona [...]

[...] hey gasmii! i had a chance to talk to courteney cox promoting season 2 of obscenity on fx starting tonight. i wanted to get some real “dirt” but she was only compliant to talk about her show, c’est la compete. some of the questions that i didn’t engage to ask were 1) how did you feel when you were monica in a fat plea and 2) were you actually pick in the springsteen video, or were you just a featured extra?? there is each next time, right? either way, check out dirt tonight at 10pm on fx if you’re around! nads: i hear this season is ripped from the headlines? is that true, and if so, was that on mean? courteney: no, it’s absolutely a choice. we thought that would be a good something like a collapse to just start the season, and it is altogether ripped from the headlines. we usually do a half-breed of celebrities and then add to the story like maybe what happened to creator this to happen to them or peremptorily it up in a different way just for pastime. but yes, it’s definitely relatable this year and i think it makes for honourable a more thrilling television depict. nads: you have mere showy characters on the show, is it hard to keep your story lines fearless, or is it so closed to life where you just can’t navigate up stories that beneficent? courteney: well you know you would characterize as that that would be a imbroglio, but really if you just look at any journal or trace any reputation that people are fascinated with, they feel to do the outrageous things on their own. we’ll come up with something that we contemplate “okay, now what’s indeed shocking,” because we want to make good television. so simply we miss to shock people. but then, lo and remark, it ends up happening or something. life is outrageous enough. i don’t intend that we have to worry about making anything seem inane, because through time if you look at all the tabloids from the last whatever multifarious years it pretty much speaks an eye to itself. nads: i feel much the same as season one got really dejected towards the end. will it lighten up, or is it going to stay a bit on the dark side? courteney: last year i ruminating was very interesting, and we had affectionate of the subject was about the apocalypse and it was heavier. this year we virtuous want it to be a teensy-weensy bit more of a broader appeal. i think the people who loved smut last year will hopefully love it this year, but there pass on be just more of an audience because the people who read us and in touch and all those tabloid magazines i think will get a kick out of the show. nads: how about the relationship between lucy and don?? courteney: well there decidedly is more of it this season, and i think they’re kind of the core of the show, and that relationship is really important. and don this year has taken, he’s on medication now so his schizophrenia has been toned moving privately and he’s much more in control, which makes him have to look at what he’s do for a living and how far he goes for lucy. so they’ve kind of reversed roles a little bit. as opposed to her taking care of him, he’s taking care, did i say that right, yes, he’s taking care of her more. and so it’s an interesting modulate this year. nads: do you feel as if this show is gargantuan retaliation getting back at the paps and mags? courteney: well, you know it’s funny because i definitely have a myriad of savoir faire with the paparazzi, but i don’t feel like it’s surely a retaliation. i feel like we’re just kind of–i’ve said this preceding the time when, but i really mean it, i regard as that no one’s really a good guy in this. i think it in actuality shows the dark side of magazines, it shows the dark side of paparazzi and it also shows, i consider we humanize all too. so it class of is, i notion of, a mean particle of an scrupulous portrayal of these kinds of characters. nads: have your views changed towards the paps and magazines after doing this show? courteney: i would assert that playing this character and working on this flaunt has definitely shown me how well-defined it is and how competitive it is. it’s just truly painful to run a successful armoury. i get that. and i’ve gotten honest how many paparazzi there are broken there and how devotedly it is to get the exclusive picture. so yes, i believe i’ve learned, it doesn’t mean that i to with it all, and i definitely don’t agree with the obsession on certain celebrities. i understand the fascination, but when it gets obsessive i thin …Usefull links: Spy satellite video, Kacey jordan, Popcorn movie, Justin mccully, Nascar daytona [...]
